(Scarborough, Maine)- The SUNY Canton women's soccer team recorded the first upset of the 2009 Sunrise Conference Soccer Championship as the No. 3 Roos blanked No. 2 University of Maine at Presque Isle 3-0 in Scarborough, Maine. The Roos improved to 10-8 overall and will face top-seed University of Maine at Fort Kent in the championship game on Saturday. The Bengals shut out No. 4 University of Maine at Machias 6-0 in the other first-round game.

SUNY Canton avenged two regular season losses to the Owls by limiting them to just a few good scoring chances. The chances Presque Isle did have were stopped by Roos goalie Aubrey Parrish (Greene, N.Y.) who had four saves and the rest of the SUNY Canton defensive backs.

The Roos popped in the only goal of the first half in the 27th minute to lead 1-0 after the first 45 minutes. Angie Waryasz (Lowville, N.Y.) beat an Owls defender down the left wing and snapped a shot past Owls goalie Taylor Ussery.

Kirsten Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) and Cristina Butler (Rochester, N.Y.) took over the scoring in the second half as Morley scored twice, both set up by Butler.

Morley's first goal came in the 55th minute and then in 68th minute Butler slid a nice through ball through two defenders to a streaking Morley who used her left foot find the lower right corner for a 3-0 lead.

Ussery finished with four saves for the Owls who end their season at 10-6.
