Men's Basketball Loses to Keuka 85-51

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- Three Keuka College players scored in double figures as the Storm beat SUNY Canton 85-51 in a non-conference men's basketball game at Clarkson University on Tuesday. The Roos slipped to 1-6 overall while Keuka evened their record at 2-2.

SUNY Canton scored the first basket of the game off a jumper from Deric Alston (Jacksonville, N.C.) but that would be the only lead the Roos would have in the game.

Keuka led 9-8 with 14:20 left in the first half but then scored seven straight points to stretch the lead to eight. Booker Diamond scored twice in that stretch and Teddy Tuggles added a three-pointer.

Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) trimmed the lead to five points when he sank one of his two triples with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

But the Roos missed their next three shots and turned the ball over three times as the Storm capitilized and stretched the lead back into double figures following another basket from Diamond and eventually the lead would be 37-24 at halftime. For the game SUNY Canton had 21 turnovers.

Keuka's lead swelled to 26 points following a 25-12 run to open the second half and they cruised to the win from there.

SUNY Canton shot 30 percent from the floor and hit just 2 of 14 3-pointers. Keuka shot 53 percent from the field and held a 44-36 rebounding advantage.

Valentin finished with 17 points, four assists and three rebounds. Alston had 15 points and three rebounds. Jeff Grenier (Whitehall, N.Y.) added four points and seven rebounds.

Calvin Logins led the Storm with 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and three assists. Diamond, who averages a double-double, posted one Tuesday night as the center had 121 points and 11 boards. Tuggles also reached double digits with 16 points.
