Men's Basketball Dropped by Potsdam 104-62

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- Five players reached double figures in scoring for SUNY Potsdam as they handed SUNY Canton a 104-62 loss in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night in Potsdam. The Roos saw their record slip to 1-7 while the Bears won their first game of the year improving to 1-2.

SUNY Canton scored the first four points of the game off a jumper from Deric Alston (Jacksonville, N.C.) and a layup from Jajuan Williams (Jacksonville, N.C.).

The Bears quickly tied the game and then continued on a 9-0 run capped off by a three-point play from Anthony Williams who dropped in a game-high 20 points. The Bears shot 58 percent in the first half and stretched their lead to 17 at the break leading 52-35.

Potsdam pulled away early in the second half as they hit five of their first eight shots from the field and forced the Roos into a pair of turnovers and just one field goal in their first six possessions.

SUNY Canton struggled from beyond the arc as they went just 2 for 21 from three-point range. Potsdam sank eight 3-pointers and shot 57 percent from the floor and connected on 12 of 15 free throws.

Williams led the Roos with 14 points and three rebounds. Tony Parker (Sodus, N.Y.) recorded his first double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Alston added 12 points and two assists.

SUNY Canton's leading scorer, Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.), who entered the game averaging 21.9 points was held to five points.

Williams also grabbed six rebounds for the Bears and Curtis Pierce added 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
