Men's Ice Hockey Steamrolls No. 17 Robert Morris 10-4

(Canton, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton took over sole possession of first place in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League as they steamrolled 17th-ranked Robert Morris University (Pa.) 10-4 Friday night at the Canton Pavilion.  The Roos improved to 10-1 in league play and 13-10 overall winning their third straight game while the Colonials suffered their second loss in the league dropping to 9-2 and 17-8.

SUNY Canton held a slim advantage in shots at 25-22 but they made the most of their opportunities, especially on the power play.  The Roos  took advantage of 14 Robert Morris penalities by scoring six goals with the man advantage.

The Roos broke open a tight 2-1 game after the first period erupting for five straight goals to start the second period over a nine-minute stretch.  Robert Morris got two goals back late in the second period but SUNY Canton kept pouring it on in the third with three more goals.  The Roos have pumped in 30 goals in their last three games.

Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.) led the scoring binge on Friday with two goals and two assists.  Pat Otwell (Orchard Park, N.Y.) also had two goals, both on the power play.  Scott Zaryski (Oswego, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists.  Andrew Royce (Somers, Conn.) had a goal and an assist and Kevin Moro (Congers, N.Y.), Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.), Dan Don (Gouverneur, N.Y.), and Adam Fedor (Orleans, N.Y.) each scored once.  

Senior Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) contributed two assists and is now just one point away from scoring 100 points in his career.

Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) stopped 18 shots in goal for the Roos.  

Phil Salerno allowed four goals on 15 shots and Rob Fallick gave up six goals on just 10 shots for Robert Morris.

The two teams will square off again on Saturday at 1:30 at the Canton Pavilion.
