(Potsdam, N.Y.)- Deric Alston (Jacksonville, N.Y.) matched a season-high with 20 points leading four players in double digits as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team swept the season series with the College of St. Joseph with an 83-72 win Sunday afternoon in Potsdam.  The Roos are now 2-5 in the Sunrise Conference and 4-13 overall.

Alston, who also had five rebounds and three assists, was one of several SUNY Canton players that turned in solid all-around games.  Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) had 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists.  Tony Parker notched his third double-double of the year with 17 points and 10 boards. Jajuan Williams (Jacksonville, N.C.) added 14 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, and three steals and Eddie Mitchell (Syracuse, N.Y.) provided a spark off the bench with six points, four steals, four assists, and three rebounds in just 15 minutes.

SUNY Canton built a 12-point first half lead with just over eight minutes left thanks to the outside shooting of Alston, who had 14 points by halftime, and the playmaking of Williams who had seven first half assists.

But the Fighting Saints didn't go away and closed the half with nine straight points, five coming from Tyler Madison, to pull within three at 41-38.

The Roos, who shot 53 percent in the first half, continued their torrid pace in the second half and used a number of fast break points to slowly pull away from St. Joseph.

The Fighting Saints were able to hang around thanks to the duo of Brad Drysdale and Doug Childs.  Drysdale scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half and Childs had 10 of his 12 before fouling out.

SUNY Canton was able to seal the win sinking their final six free throws in the closing minutes.

Drysdale also grabbed nine rebounds and Childs added six boards.  Jamie Radja contributed 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.
