Alston Named Player of the Week in Sunrise Conference

(Canton, N.Y.)-Sophomore guard Deric Alston (Jacksonville, N.C.) has been named the Sunrise Conference Player of the Week.

Alston receives the award for the first time this season after averaging 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in two games last week for the Roos.  Alston fired in 20 points,grabbed five rebounds and handed out three assists in an 83-72 win over the College of St. Joseph on Sunday.  The previous day he had 14 points, four rebounds and two assists as the Roos came up just short against the conference's top team Fisher college in a 91-89 loss.

In both games Alston shot an impressive 53 percent from the floor.  He continued to stuff the stat sheet Tuesday night as he collected 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals helping the Roos beat Paul Smith's College 75-73.

The Lejeune High School graduate is second on the team in scoring (11.4) and is also averaging 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists while connecting on 42 percent of his shots from the field.

Carolina gets the nod after batting an impressive .882 in a four-game sweep of Vermont Technical College.  

The junior was named the Sunrise Conference Player of the Week after she belted three doubles and two triples, drove in 15 runs and scored 10 times.  

She went 4-for-4 twice, the second time finishing with seven RBIs, and she had four hits in three out of the four games.

Olivares leads the conference batting .594.  She is second in triples (2), third in RBIs (16) and tied for fifth in doubles with three.

Matthew receives the award after batting .667 in six games this week finishing with five RBIs and four runs.  

He was named the Sunrise Conference Player of the Week after going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in a 6-5 loss to St. Michael’s College.  He also went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and two runs in an 8-5 win over Vermont Technical College.

In addition he struck out eight batters and allowed just five hits in another 11-1 win over the Green Knights.

Fallon is batting .393 with four doubles, a triple and five RBIs.  He's one of the top pitchers in the conference as he is second in both strikeouts (18) and opponents batting average (.234) and third in both earned-run average (6.04) and innings pitched (22.1).
