Shelby McGraw rounds third against Vermont Tech on Saturday
(Canton, N.Y.)-  The SUNY Canton softball team generated 45 hits in an impressive offensive display as they swept Vermont Technical College 16-1 and 33-2 in a Sunrise Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Canton.  The Roos are now 3-3 in the conference and 3-3 overall while the Green Knights dropped to 0-2 in both the conference and overall.

After scoring just one run in the first inning in the opener, SUNY Canton put up eight runs in the next two innings, including a pair of home runs in the second.  Jenifer Shaw (Helendale, Calif.) launched a two-run shot that just snuck inside the foul pole in left-field and then one batter later Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) blasted a solo, inside the park home run.

SUNY Canton put the game away with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth on four hits.

The Green Knights manufactured their only run in the top of the fourth when Abby Fusco singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Shelby Boyce.

Lottie and Carolina Olivares (Adelanto, Calif.) each went 4-for-4 with two runs.  Olivares also had a triple and a double and two RBIs.  Shaw finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Danielle Callahan (Kingston, N.Y.) added three hits and three runs.

Tina DeLuca (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) held the Green Knights to just three hits and one walk while striking out six batters in five innings.

Fusco allowed 18 hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts.

In the second game the Roos batted around twice in the bottom of the first inning, quickly erasing a 2-0 lead the Green Knights built in the top half of the inning. The Roos went ahead 17-2 as they pounded out nine hits in the first.  The lead swelled to 28-2 after the third and the final margin was completed with a five-run fourth inning.

Five SUNY Canton batters recorded at least four hits led by Shaw who went 5-for-5 with five runs and four RBIs.  Shelby McGraw (North Lawrence, N.Y.) was 4-for-4 with four runs and three RBIs.  Olivares was 4-for-4 and drove in seven runs.  Lottie and DeLuca each had four hits apiece.

DeLuca started the game on the mound and allowed just four hits with three strikeouts in three innings.  Lottie came on in relief in her first appearance on the mound this season and struck out two and did not allow a hit in two innings.

Fusco went 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI.   Heather Mugford went 1-for-3 with a run and Fusco and Sarah Roche combined for five strikeouts.
