Tina DeLuca had 15 strikeouts against Fisher
(Lynn, Mass.)- The SUNY Canton women's softball team had a successful debut on Saturday as they beat Fisher College 3-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader at Breed Field in Lynn, Mass.  The Falcons earned the split with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

These games marked the first for SUNY Canton as a four-year program after not having a season the past two years to rebuild the program.

Playing with mostly a freshmen and sophomore lineup the Roos overcame some cold bats to put up three runs in the third inning of game one.  Colleen Rivers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) stroked a two-run double and Vickie Lynch (Howard Beach, N.Y.) followed with an RBI-single in that decisive inning.

Jenifer Shaw (Helendale, Calif.) added two hits for the Roos and freshman Tina DeLuca (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) was outstanding in her collegiate debut fanning nine batters and scattering five hits over seven innings.

Jackie Streeter, last year's Sunrise Conference Player of the Year, and Amada Davis each doubled for the Falcons and Brittany Calderon took the loss on the mound.

In the second game Streeter blasted a pair of home runs to guide Fisher to the win and Michelle Oliverio made several outstanding diving catches in center field.

DeLuca picked up six more strikeouts in the loss.
