Men's Ice Hockey Announces 2009-10 Team Awards

Scott Zaryski was named Most Valuable Player
(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team announced their team awards at a dinner on April 22 at McCarthy's Restaurant in Canton.
Head coach Eric McCambly honored seven of his players from the team that won the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League regular season championship and advanced to the ACHA Division I national tournament.
Senior defenseman Scott Zaryski (Oswego, N.Y.) was named the Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Defensive Player. Zaryski led all SUNY Canton defensemen with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points. He had five power play goals and two game-winning goals.
Freshman forward Adam Fedor (Orleans, Ontario) was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player. Fedor scored a team-leading 27 goals and 27 assists for a team-high 54 points. He also led the team in game-winning goals with five, three coming in overtime.
Fedor and freshman forward John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) earned co-Rookie of the Year honors. Payne was second to Fedor in scoring with 15 goals and 28 assists for 43 points. He had four power play goals and one game-winner.
The Most Improved Player went to junior forward Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.). Cook was fourth on the team in scoring with 21 goals and 14 assists for 35 points. Three of his goals were game-winners.
The 7th Player Award went to sophomore defenseman Andrew Royce (Somers, Conn.). Royce had three goals and 13 assists for 16 points.
The Terry Martin Pride and Passion Award was given to senior forward Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.). Talamo was one of two players to play in all 32 games this year and he had seven goals and 22 assists for 29 points. He was whistled for just one penalty all year and joined the 100-point club finishing his career with 40 goals and 70 assists for 110 points.
The Coach's Award went to senior forward Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y). Levy had eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points.
Zaryski was named an all-ECHL First Team selection and Cook made the second team. Freshman defenseman Brad Wilson (Ottawa, Ontario) was named the ECHL Rookie of the Year and made the all-rookie team with freshman forward Corey Frizell (Orleans, Ontario). Talamo, Payne and Chris Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) were named ECHL Academic All-Stars.
