(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's soccer team handed out their year-end team awards at a banquet on February 22 at the Best Western University Inn in Canton.
Head coach Kate Thomas-Moody announced five award winners from her team that advanced to the championship game of the Sunrise Conference tournament.
Senior defenseman and co-captain
Jackie Maynard (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) was named the Most Valuable Player for the Roos who advanced to the championship game of the Sunrise Conference tournament. Maynard pumped in five goals for 10 points on 23 shots from her defensive position.
Senior defenseman
Cierra Wells (Madrid, N.Y.) was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Wells and Maynard led a defense that held opponents to 2.3 goals per game.
Freshman midfielder and forward
Angie Waryasz (Beaver Falls, N.Y.) was given the Offensive Player of the Year award. Waryasz was second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points and she was also second in shots with 39.
The Most Improved Player was freshman midfielder
Kirsten Skelly (Morristown, N.Y.) who had one goal and one assist on nine shots.
The Coach's Award went to sophomore
Emily Bush (Heuvelton, N.Y.). Bush rotated between midfield and defense this year and had one goal and 10 shots.
Maynard and Waryasz each made the all-conference team and freshman forward
Kirsten Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) was named the Sunrise Conference Rookie of the Year and to the all-conference team.
