Academic Excellence
(Canton, N.Y.)- This past year SUNY Canton student-athletes enjoyed a great deal of success on the fields, courts and ice and earned even greater success in the classroom.

26 student-athletes received academic excellence awards from the athletic department for earning a 3.35 grade-point average or higher.  Three student-athletes received the Sunrise Conference Outstanding Scholar Athlete award for earning the highest grade-point average among all student-athletes in their respective sport.  There was also six upper classmen who earned Scholar Athlete Awards from the Sunrise Conference and three men's ice hockey players who were named Eastern Collegiate Hockey League Academic All-Stars.

"We remain very committed and focused on ensuring our student-athletes take their academic commitment seriously and to maintain an environment which inspires academic excellence," said athletic director Diane Para.

The total combined grade-point average for all of SUNY Canton's student-athletes was a 2.95.  Three teams earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher including men's and women's cross country (3.34), softball (3.22) and women's soccer (3.06).

"I would like to thank the faculty for their continued cooperation in these efforts," said Para.  "We appreciate the sharing of information when a student-athlete is not performing at an acceptable level and look to continued cooperative efforts to help ensure our student-athletes remain committed to their academic progress."
