(Utica, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's cross country team captured third place out of 12 teams at the SUNYIT Wildcat Invitational on Saturday in Utica.
The Roos took three individual spots in the top 10 in the 6K race to record 83 points in their season-opening meet.
Freshman Jon Flint (Queensbury, N.Y.) had an impressive debut for the Roos finishing in second place in a time of 20:18. He was just 18 seconds behind the overall winner, Eric Young of Hudson Valley Community College.
Sophomore
Justin Richardson (Pavilion, N.Y.), last year's Sunrise Conference Rookie of the Year, came in fourth place in a time of 20:40. Rounding out the top 10 was freshman
Dylan Barringer (Walkill, N.Y.) who notched a time of 21:13.
Other SUNY Canton finishers on the day included freshman Greg Ashe (Watertown, N.Y.) who was 32nd in 22:50, freshman
Scott Jeffers (Livonia, N.Y.) at 35th in 23:03, sophomore
Joel Landry (Malone, N.Y.) (38th, 23:12), sophomore
Tyler Morse (North Creek, N.Y.) (60th, 25:02), freshman Jeff Marquart (Canton, N.Y.) (74th, 26:08), freshman
Sean Keller (Macedon, N.Y.) (84th, 28:13), sophomore
Shawn Wakefield (Cohoes, N.Y.) (86th, 29:40), and freshman
Mark Krueger (Livonia, N.Y.) (89th, 30:12).
The SUNY Canton women's team posted an incomplete score but had two runners compete in the race. Sophomore Kristie Melven (Attica, N.Y.) came in 55th in a time of 27:27 in the 5K race and senior Katelyn Anthony (Spencerport, N.Y.) was close behind in 56th place in a time of 27:32.
