In 2006, SUNY Canton received $18 million to construct an ice rink and convocation center. The scope of the initial project changed dramatically because of a need for a new athletic facility.

The new project is estimated to exceed $40 million, and will include a field house with a regulation hard court that will be used by the SUNY Canton basketball and volleyball teams. The rest of the field house will have a synthetic surface that can be used by other SUNY Canton sports teams, students and community members.
