(Rutland, Vt.)- The SUNY Canton women's basketball team rolled out to a big first half over the College of St. Joseph and never looked back as they handed the Fighting Saints a 74-31 loss Sunday afternoon in Rutland, Vt. The Roos are now 1-0 in the Sunrise Conference and 4-7 overall while the College of St. Joseph fell to 0-4 in the conference and 1-12 overall.
The Roos led 41-16 after the first 20 minutes and shot an even 50 percent from the field for the game while holding the Fighting Saints to just 22 percent shooting from the floor. SUNY Canton also forced 18 turnovers, 12 coming off steals, and dominated the boards with a 45-24 rebounding advantage.
Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) (above) led the Roos with 17 points and six rebounds. LaFave hit 6 of 9 shots from the floor and went 4-for-5 from the free throw line.
Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) added a career-high 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) contributed 11 points and eight boards and
Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) dropped in 10 points with six rebounds.
Brittney Garrow led the Fighting Saints with 16 points and nine rebounds. Rachel Paquette added eight points and five rebounds.
