Women's Basketball Clips Machias 64-63

(Machias, Maine)- The SUNY Canton women's basketball team hit several key free throws down the stretch as they held off the University of Maine at Machias 64-63 Thursday night in Maine.  The Roos remained unbeaten in the Sunrise Conference at 2-0 and they also improved to 5-7 overall.  The Clippers dropped to 2-1 in the conference and 9-5 overall.

With time winding down Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) hit three big free throws helping SUNY Canton, who was without several starters down the stretch due to foul trouble and injuries, hold on to their slim lead.  The Clippers had a shot at the buzzer but a heave from around half court missed the mark.

Kenyon finished with eight points going 5-for-7 from the free throw line.

Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) scored a team-high 19 points.  Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) added 16 and Kirsten Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) (above) contributed seven including two big 3-pointers in the first half.

Sabree Rodrigues poured in a game-high 27 points for the Clippers and Elisa Boyd chipped in with 13.
