Women's Basketball Tripped Up By Machias 66-62 on OT

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's basketball team closed out the regular season on Sunday as they lost to the University of Maine at Machias 66-62 in overtime at Clarkson University.  The Roos fell to 7-4 in the Sunrise Conference and 10-12 overall while the Clippers improved to 8-4 in the conference and 16-8 overall.

The Roos had to fight their way back to force the extra session after giving up a four-point halftime deficit.  The Clippers led 58-57 with 38 seconds following back-to-back baskets from Kaeisha Parks.  SUNY Canton turned the ball over on their next possession and Parks was fouled but missed the front end of the one-and-one.

With 15 seconds left Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) was fouled and she calmly sank two free throws to send the game into overtime.

SUNY Canton quickly went ahead by two when Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) scored on the inside.  But that would be the only basket the Roos could muster in overtime as they missed their next seven shots and Machias outscored them 8-2.

Kenyon finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

LaFave scored a team-high 19 point and grabbed seven rebounds and senior Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) added six points and eight rebounds in her final home game.

Parks dropped in a game-high 22 points for Machias.  Sabree Rodriguez added 15 points, 13 boards and three assists.
