Women's Basketball Topples Fisher College 62-54

(Boston, Mass.)- Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) pumped in 19 points leading the SUNY Canton women's basketball team to their third straight win beating Fisher College 62-54 Saturday in Boston.  The Roos swept the season series with the Falcons improving to 5-2 in the Sunrise Conference and 8-9 overall.  Fisher dropped to 3-5 and 6-17.

LaFave also snagged five rebounds.  Teresa Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals and Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) collected 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Tiffany Beckman led Fisher with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, six rebounds and two assists.  Jackie Streeter added 15 points, eight boards and three steals.

Matthew receives the award after batting .667 in six games this week finishing with five RBIs and four runs.  

He was named the Sunrise Conference Player of the Week after going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in a 6-5 loss to St. Michael’s College.  He also went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and two runs in an 8-5 win over Vermont Technical College.

In addition he struck out eight batters and allowed just five hits in another 11-1 win over the Green Knights.

Fallon is batting .393 with four doubles, a triple and five RBIs.  He's one of the top pitchers in the conference as he is second in both strikeouts (18) and opponents batting average (.234) and third in both earned-run average (6.04) and innings pitched (22.1).

Carolina gets the nod after batting an impressive .882 in a four-game sweep of Vermont Technical College.  

The junior was named the Sunrise Conference Player of the Week after she belted three doubles and two triples, drove in 15 runs and scored 10 times.  

She went 4-for-4 twice, the second time finishing with seven RBIs, and she had four hits in three out of the four games.

Olivares leads the conference batting .594.  She is second in triples (2), third in RBIs (16) and tied for fifth in doubles with three.
